While leading IBM’s Knowledge Management and Intelligent Agent Center, Dr. Manny Aparicio and Jim Fleming encountered scaling issues with associative memories systems that had stymied the commercialization of this approach for decades.
In 1999, they left IBM and established Saffron Technology in order to solve the scaling problem and applied their expertise towards more advanced, intelligent computing solutions for personalization in electronic commerce, query optimization, processing informatics for life sciences and national defense.
On 9/11, the acts of terrorism on U.S. soil transformed the world. Inspired and committed, Aparicio and Fleming transformed Saffron to focus entirely on national defense and fill a crucial need in a post-9/11 world: faster, more accurate entity analytic and prediction tools for dealing with massive amounts of seemingly unconnected data. They noticed that traditional approaches to data analysis broke down, the complexity of problems increased and the signals grew weak when the volume of data was high. They were inspired to create order out of chaos and build analytical tools to make prediction easier and more accurate.
Saffron’s technology provides Defense and Intelligence agencies powerful memory-based entity analytics tools to those protecting us from threats of loss and destruction. Saffron is also pursing new missions for the application of memory-based entity analytic and prediction solutions for the life sciences and health care industries.
